Carbon Cost of Crime
We can all assume what the finincial implications of crime may be. Whether it's to do with insurance premiums, repair costs, possibly lost business due to down time, and even the emotional costs in terms of the fear of crime repeating.
There is however another cost that many overlook, and it is that to the environment. Research comissioned by ACPO, and carried out by criminology Professor Ken Pease, has revealed the significance of crime on our CO² output; an estimated total of 11.6 million tonnes - that's 2% of the UKs' total CO² emissions.
Adopting the design and specification standards advocated by Design for Security will help to minimise the opportunity for crime to occur and to cut down this figure.
